Gabriel Martinelli is set to miss Arsenal's Carabao Cup match against Brighton after suffering an injury.
The Brazilian forward's absence is a significant blow to the Gunners' title hopes.
What happened?
Mikel Arteta, the manager, confirmed the news, stating Martinelli would not be involved in the cup game.
Arteta said: "[Martinelli] looks as well that he is going to be out. We have to, again, do some more tests and see the extent of the injury."
Why it matters for Gabriel Martinelli
Martinelli's injury adds to Arsenal's growing list of absentees, with forwards Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Noni Madueke already sidelined.
The Gunners have won seven out of their first nine matches and are four points clear at the top of the Premier League table as of the 2025-26 campaign.
What comes next?
Arsenal will likely make several changes to their starting lineup for the Carabao Cup clash, with Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera, and Myles Lewis-Skelly potentially featuring in defence.
Youth sensation Max Dowman could also be included in the matchday squad after impressing for Arsenal U19s in Europe and the English youth leagues.
And with a hectic schedule either side of the November international break, Arteta may hand game time to other squad members.
But Martinelli's injury will be a concern for the Gunners, who have been labelled as favourites to win the league title after years of heartbreak.
So Arteta will be hoping the Brazilian forward can return to action soon.
As of the current campaign, Arsenal have a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
